Water is one of the most important raw materials of the region. People have been utilising the power of flowing water since time immemorial, whether for transportation or for driving mills or saw mills. Hydroelectric power has contributed and continues to contribute economically to this border region.
The GKW power plants are, with one exception, all high-pressure power plants. Through the power of the water, turbines are caused to rotate, which in turn are coupled to generators. The water is neither physically nor chemically changed during this process and leaves our facilities in as clean a state as it entered them.
